Mandate:
CUPE Alberta sectoral committees exist to co-ordinate activities of CUPE locals within the same area of the public service. The Education Committee works to plan bargaining strategy, public relations campaigns and government lobby efforts, as well as acting as an avenue for education locals to keep each other informed of their activities.

EDMONTON – The President of Alberta’s Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) congratulated the provincial government today for moving forward with new school construction; but urged the reconsideration of further P3 projects.
In the last round of bargaining, education workers negotiated a deal which tied their raises to the Alberta Average Weekly Earnings index. When the index came out with a higher rate than expected, the Conservative government balked at living up to their side of the deal. CUPE members have been expressing their opinions in the letters pages of local newspapers. Here are two samples:
