Three hundred and fifty members of UFCW Local 401 have been locked out at Safeway Distribution Centre and ice cream factory in Edmonton.
Picketing is taking place 24/7 at the Safeway Distribution Centre: 139 -142 Street and Yellowhead Trail, as well as the Edmonton Distribution Centre Warehouse: 160 Street and 115 Avenue.
The employer has hired replacement workers at the Yellowhead Trail site and is treating them to meals. It is also requiring Safeway store managers to come to work in the Yellowhead warehouse. Not a single UFCW member has crossed the picket line.
The union is asking us to not shop at Safeway for the duration of the dispute.
