Better deal for St. Albert school workers

St. Albert – School support employees at St. Albert’s Protestant school district ratified a new contract giving them wage and benefit improvements.

The agreement gives all employees a 4.53% increase in the first year, followed by an increase equal to the average weekly earnings in the second year. Trades employees will receive those increases plus a $2/hour increase. All employees will move to a new benefit plan providing better coverage.

CUPE 1099 President Bob Starko said he was happy with the deal.

“All in all, I would say this is a pretty fair agreement for the times,” said Starko. “With the economy in trouble, our members are happy to have job security, a good wage increase, and improvements in our benefits.”
