Media Advisory: Custodians to call for stimulus spending in Education

EDMONTON – CUPE 474 President Doug Luellman will call upon the Edmonton Public School District and the provincial government to stimulate the sagging economy with more funding for education.

Luellman, who represents over 600 custodial workers in the public school system, will provide research to School Trustees showing that a $1 billion investment in early learning and child care would create more jobs than a similar amount invested in other areas.

Luellman will also use his address to the Trustees to speak on other areas of concern in the district, including the privatization of school buildings, the greening of the school system, and workplace issues of concern to CUPE members.
