March 21 – International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

March 21 reminds us of the struggles of People of Colour and Aboriginal Peoples and the long history of Racism.

The root causes of oppression and racism go deeper than overt expressions of bigotry and hatred that people of Colour and Aboriginal Peoples experience every day.

The root causes of Racism and discrimination are linked to colonialism and imperialism that exploit People of Colour and Aboriginal Peoples throughout the world.

CUPE stands against racism as a matter of fundamental principle. Racism contradicts and undermines our union struggle for equality, inclusiveness and social justice.

Intolerance, hatred and discrimination lead to the denial of basic human rights and fundamental freedoms, endangers peace and economic and social security.
