CALGARY - A
cross-sectoral coalition representing thousands of Calgarians has come
together to ensure that its members are able to vote for public
services on October 15th.
Several Calgary CUPE locals have joined forces with Calgary Police
Association, International Association of Firefighters Local 255,
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 583, Calgary Fire Fighters Association,
and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 254, to make
sure that Calgary voters have the information they need to elect their
City Council and School Boards.
"Our members live and work in Calgary. They provide the public services
that make Calgary a clean and safe city and utilize the services they
provide," said CUPE Local 38 President Peter Marsden. "Our coalition
aims to help our members - and all Calgarians - make an informed
decision on election day."
The coalition sent a simple survey to all the candidates running for City Council, the Public School Board, and the Catholic School Board.
It is now publicizing the results of this survey through a series of
radio ads, and online at calgaryvoters.ca
