CUPE Local 3550 celebrates Communities Day by supporting WIN House
Edmonton Public School support staff members value their communities;
this is reflected in the care and commitment that they bring to their
demanding jobs. Once a year, to highlight CUPE in Communities Day,
they go above and beyond this regular work and focus extra efforts on
helping a local charity. Once again this year, they have decided to do
this by collecting donations for WIN House, an Edmonton women's
shelter.
The event, "Rebuilding Strong Communities one Kitchen at a Time" will
be held on Tuesday October 2nd at 4pm at the Ramada Inn. Mayor Stephen
Mandel will be on hand as Local 3550 collects kitchen kits to give to
women transitioning from WIN House back into their communities.
"Women often arrive at WIN House with nothing but the belongings they
can carry," said Trudy Grebenstein, President of CUPE Local 3550. "When
it comes time for them to start their new lives, we want to make sure
they have the basic supplies they need to feed themselves and their
families."
CUPE Alberta President D'Arcy Lanovaz will also be present, and will
say a few words on behalf of CUPE members across the province.
